BENEFITS & PERKS

“The experience of working at Camp Hawkeye is life changing and the people are just the best kind of friends you could ever meet. One of the best things I've ever done.“
  - Diana (they/them)

ROOM, BOARD & LAUNDRY SERVICE

A PLACE TO STAY & 3 MEALS A DAY!

All staff live on site during the summer. You'll live in a bunk with campers and other staff, and have your own bed area and storage space. We provide a mattress and you bring the bedding you like. Cabins have electricity and screens, and are within eyesight and a quick walk to the central washhouses, which have private showers and changing areas, bathroom facilities, sinks, etc. All meals are provided for you, including on your time off, if you want them. Each week, your laundry will be washed, dried, and returned to you clean and fluffy. There is no cost to staff for housing, meals, or laundry service.

CREATURE COMFORTS

STAY CONNECTED WITH WIFI

We have a dedicated staff wifi so you can get online during your time off. You're welcome to send email, stream videos, check the non-Hawkeye news, connect with people at home...there's plenty of bandwidth to share.

WE'VE GOT YOUR RIDE COVERED!

You are welcome to bring a car to camp, but you don't need to. We provide free transportation to camp from a nearby airport, bus, or train station when you arrive, and we make sure to get you back there at the end of the summer, too. If you don't have a car at camp, and you need something from off-site, all you need to do is ask.

KID-FREE ZONES

To make sure there's a place for just adults, we offer a staff lounge with dedicated internet, fridge/freezer and basic kitchen equipment if you want to whip up something special, comfortable couches, ping pong and foosball tables, games, and quiet nooks and crannies for napping. You're welcome to charge your laptops or electronics in the staff lounge, and its a great social space separate from the rest of camp.

PROFESSIONAL ADVANCEMENT

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT

While you're working at camp, you'll experience 10 days of staff training (learn more about that here) and a summer full of expeirences that you'll bring back with you to your out-of-camp life. You'll build skills in leadership and teamwork, problem-solving, community development, interpersonal relations, creativity, communication, and more. Camp staff are known for having an excellent work ethic and you'll be able to proudly show that off. You'll also meet weekly with your supervisor for supportive conversations where you'll discuss your goals, accomplishments, and challenges, an experience that will help prepare you for future roles in the working world.

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION

After the summer, Garrett and Jess are happy to help you with your professional and career goals by writing you letters of recommendation for schools and job opportunities. They're also great resources to help you leverage all the skills you learned while on staff into a fantastic resume!

STAFF RECREATION

PAID TIME OFF

Everyone needs a break and you get one each day. You'll always have one period off where camp is happening but you don't need to do anything but what you want to do (including rest, go for a run, check your phone, etc.). Several evenings a week, you'll also have time off after campers go to bed. And you'll have regular days off as well. All of this paid time off is built into your camp schedule.

BECAUSE YOU DESERVE DOWNTIME!

Being on staff at overnight camp can be an adjustment because you're living where you work. We know that means it's our responsibility to make sure you have spaces and places that are designated "kid-free zones" where you can relax and rejuvenate after putting all your effort into providing an amazing day for the kids. You'll be expected to work hard when it's work time, and you'll enjoy your down-time and time off every day, too.

STAFF RECREATION & SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

When you're not with the kids, you are welcome to use camp spaces such as fields, campfire areas, hiking trails, etc. Provided a lifeguard is available, you are also welcome to swim at either of the pools.

Each summer, a staff Social Committee (anyone can join!) collects feedback from the team and sets up special events, snack nights, and fun. It's all free for staff - funds for these events are provided by the camp. If there's something you and a group of other staff would like to have or do (within reason, of course), the Social Committee can help make that happen without a whole bunch of "red tape." Our goal is to make sure your time off is relaxing, rewarding, and rejuvenating.

ADVENTURING AWAITS ON YOUR DAYS OFF

Once weekly, you'll have a full day off, and you're welcome to hang out on site or head off on an adventure. There is plenty of local, amazing hiking and outdoor pursuits, or we can help you get to a nearby shopping area. Some staff choose to spend time in Boston, MA or Keene, NH (a great college town with plenty of activities, amenities, and awesome eateries!). And don't worry if you don't have a car at camp, there are plenty of staff who do and who will be happy to help you get off camp if that's what you want to do! Plenty of staff prefer to spend a lazy day reading or relaxing in a hammock or tent in the woods. Days off are a great way to to re-charge the way that feels best for you, so you're ready for another awesome week of camp.
