A NOTE FROM JESS
WE ARE DOING THIS TOGETHER
Dear Campers,
I’m so glad you are here! I’m so excited that I may get to meet you soon and welcome you to camp this summer!
Hawkeye is different than other camps, for one reason. I’m HERE! You may not know me yet but I will be your biggest cheerleader, I will be your go to for hugs, I will be your dance party partner, I will jump in the cold water with you and I’ll celebrate getting to the top of any summit alongside you. I’m also a great listener, I can color with the best of them and I can get lost in a good book for hours.
At Hawkeye you have the opportunity to do things that are going to be hard for you. You have the opportunity to do things that you would never do at home with people that you wouldn’t normally do stuff with. THIS IS AWESOME!!! And it can be scary. That’s ok, you are not alone and when we do things that are difficult for us we get the added bonus of growth and we build resiliency.
It may be more comfortable for us to sit at home, on our devices with our home comforts and only connect with people who get us and who know us, or for us not to connect with anyone at all and for us to hang by ourselves. This will not help you become all you are capable of being.
I can help! The counselors at Hawkeye can help too! We are here for YOU! We cannot wait to get to know you and for you to get to know us. We cannot wait to have you at camp to discover what things you are great at, what things you didn’t know you were great at and add some new skills and experiences to your life resume.
Coming to Hawkeye is making a commitment to yourself to grow as a person and to have fun. To disengage from the pressures and stress of social media, home life and school so you can fully connect with other humans who may turn out to be some of your very best friends.
Hawkeye you will do things you have never done before; you will try things you never thought you would. You will NEVER do it alone. When you accomplish these things; whether it be sleeping in a tent, completing a 10 mile hike, trying tofu, participating in drama games, hitting a bullseye, making your first friendship bracelet or holding a garter snake you will have a group of people to celebrate with; And celebrate we will. You will be encouraged, supported, and celebrated for your wins and through your losses. This is my promise to you.
Let’s Go! Is it summer yet? I sincerely cannot wait to have you at Hawkeye.
With Gratitude and Excitement,
Jess
